"And he withdrew from them about a stones throw, and he knelt down and prayed, saying; Father if you are willing, remove this cup
from me; yet not my will, but always, your will be done.
And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him.
And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like
great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground."
Luke 22:41-44
The scene of Jesus Christ crying out to his Father in the garden Of Gethsemane with “ great clots of blood” flowing down his face is one of the most gripping events ever recorded.
He revealed to his disciples that evening that” his soul was deeply
sorrowful even unto death. ” Those are very moving words to hear
from the Creator of the universe. It shows how much he suffered; Both
mentally, and emotionally, for the benefit of us all.
Even though we have the accounts from the gospel writers describing the
events that transpired that awful day, I wonder If we can ever really
understand the “ depth” of what he went through? The transition of being a
part of the Godhead with the Father , from eternity, to having your body
nailed to a tree is far beyond the human mind to comprehend.
We are told in Hebrews that Christ became our High Priest by that which he
suffered; He is able to understand what we go through in this life because of “his days in the flesh”.
Now, being in his glorified state he can have compassion on us and give us strength in time of need.
“The Agony” seeks to paint a picture of that awful night with a haunting
melody and harmonies supported by a string trio.
