"I am the Vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh Away;
and every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth it,
that it may bring more fruit."
John 15:1-3
These verses were part of a series of discourses that Jesus Christ
presented to his disciples on their way to the Garden of Gethsemane after the Passover meal. They could have been passing through a vineyard that evening. With a full moon present, he could have used it as an illustration of what he wanted to convey to them.
Filled with beautiful metaphor`s about Christ being the vine and we being the branches
it's no wonder that these words hold great meaning for us today.
The song is written, following the text, in first person; giving a sense of hearing those words from the creator himself.
