Zaphnath-Panea
Song Background
Zaphnath-Panea is what I’m called
In the land of the pharaoh, a prince above all
And the word of the lord that was spoken to me
Has come to the land as he said it would be.
And the people bow before me
With their mouths open wide
They say I`m their savior
And that many men have died
Twenty long years now have passed since that day
That my brothers in Sehecem did cast me away
And my thoughts go before them with my Father so dear
And I wonder where they in this land of famine and fear
Father, Father help me for I`m so afraid
Father, deliver your son from this dark and evil day
My brothers were angry of the things that I said
Of the dreams and the visions I had in my bed
How their sheaves bowed before me, with the Sun, Moon and Stars
How my Father rebuked me then he held it in his heart
Is this a vision or do I see
My brothers are coming to bow before me
And my heart grows heavy and the tears begin to fall
Should I tell them I’m Joseph
Or should I repay them all?
Here at the table my brothers now see
The face of the one sent into slavery
And their hearts grow heavy and their tears begin to fall
Their heads are bowed in sorrow and their cries now fill the hall
They cried Joseph, Joseph help us
For we are so ashamed, Joseph deliver us now
From this dark and evil day
In the garden of sorrow a man came to pray
To ask that his cup might be taken away
And his heart grew heavy and as blood his tears did fall
And he cried to his Father but he chose to die for us all. |
